St. Mary's High School & Dana Jones Host a Book Drive

Dear Colleague,

In coordination with St. Mary’s of Annapolis High School Book Club, we are hosting a book drive benefiting the Boys & Girls Club at Wiley H. Bates Heritage Park in Annapolis, known as ‘The Bates Club’.

The Bates Club is a wonderful facility which offers an abundance of activities and caring staff that serves children of all ages here in Annapolis. They have a lovely library which needs gently used books. St. Mary’s High School Book Club and my hope is to fill those shelves with books for which children can choose to read at the Bates Club - or take home and keep! The Bates Club library encourages children to take those books home to keep.

A book filed home has benefits beyond reading for children. A 20-year study shows a predictor of a child's academic success is the presence of books in the home. Regardless of the parent's income, economic status, nationality or level of education, children who grew up with books in their homes reached a higher level of education than those who did not.

I hope you will join us in this book drive. New and gently used books can be donated in the bin outside my office (HOB 152) until March 11th, 2022. Please do not hesitate to reach out to my office should you have any questions. Thank you in advance for your participation.
