Dear Friend,
What a gorgeous day in Annapolis!! A beautiful day of love, acceptance, and joy! Thank you to all those who came out to celebrate last Saturday & thank you Annapolis Pride for a wonderfully organized celebration! Let us always celebrate diversity & unity as we spread love. Together, we can make the world a kinder place for all. Here are some of my favorite pictures from the event!
Summer @ Your Library Begins At AACPL
Since 1948, AACPL has held a reading challenge in an effort to engage readers of all ages and foster literacy and learning even in the summer months outside of school. Studies show that, on average, students will lose about 25% of their reading and math gains from the previous school year if they are not engaged in some sort of learning activity over summer vacation.
At the library, they make this easy and fun by working learning into their annual Summer Quest – a free game where participants of all ages can choose their daily reading or learning goal and earn prizes by reaching milestones throughout a 40-day period. The Quest is available in both English and Spanish so that all can play. I’ve been a participant with my son for years, and we look forward to it every summer! To sign up and see full details, please visit their Summer @ Your Library page.

APEX Commercial Band Performance
What a night celebrating the Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) Apex Arts Program Commercial Band! Forming out of the crisis of the pandemic, this incredibly talented group went on to become the first Commercial Band to perform at the Maryland Music Educators Conference.
They have set an example throughout the State for how to modify and augment traditional music education opportunities. Thank you to them for an incredible show, and I was proud to present them citations on behalf of the entire Anne Arundel County Delegation!
AIPPC Artist Reception
Shiles Studio presents Painting through the Ages at the "Pip" Moyer Recreation Center now through June 24! Under the direction of Gay Shiles (owner and artist), Shiles Studios presents a collection of works by studio artists. Gay has more than 60 years of experience in the art world, including graduating with honors from the prestigious Wiesbaden Institute of Art.
The studio will host an artist reception on Saturday, June 24 from 1 to 3 pm at the "Pip" Moyer Recreation Center. Local Annapolis artist Audrey Lee (Gallery 57 West, Annapolis Arts Alliance board member and former Shiles Studio artist) will provide an artist talk along with studio artists who will answer questions about their works of art. Original artwork, as well as prints, are for sale. Additional prints and crafts will be available at the reception. Plus enjoy live music by local musician Steve McCoy and light refreshments. Annapolis Blues Home Schedule
Congratulations to the Annapolis Blues for celebrating their home opener with a win last weekend! The atmosphere was incredible, and our amazing community set the regular season NPSL attendance record with over 8,000 fans attending! I’m looking forward to being at their games this summer, and be sure to save their schedule on the right so you can be there too!
